Marvel Studios has announced the new Black Widow release date. The highly anticipated Natasha Romanoff standalone movie will be released on November 6th. This was the release date for the Eternals movie, which has now been pushed back, along with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 projects. There was speculation that Disney and Marvel Studios were toying with the idea of releasing Black Widow and Mulan digitally, in an effort to skip theaters, but that is obviously not going to happen at this point in time.
The Eternals movie has been pushed to February 12th, 2021, while Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will now open May 7th, 2021. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was probably going to get pushed back anyway, will now open on November 5th, 2021 and Thor: Love and Thunder has moved to February 18th, 2022. Looking ahead to the MCU's Phase 5, Black Panther 2 will still debut May 6th, 2022, while Captain Marvel 2, which previously did not have a firm release date, has been set for July 8th, 2022.
At this time, it is unclear when movie theaters are going to be able to open their doors again. Some have predicted that sometime in June is likely, though it is not guaranteed. AMC might not even open their doors again after their latest credit rating was revealed. With that being said, Marvel Studios made a wise decision in pushing everything back on their calendar. Black Widow could have come out in the late summer or early fall, but there's really no predicting what the entertainment business will look like at that time. Pushing things further may bum out fans, but there was really no avoiding this situation.
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige announced the MCU Phase 4 titles at last year's San Diego Comic-Con and received an enthusiastic response from the world. In addition to the big screen titles, Feige also spoke about all of the Disney+ TV shows that are on the way too. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision were the first to go into production, but it's unclear if they will meet their release dates now that production has been halted. It is believed that they were mostly complete, but there has not been an official announcement as of this writing.
MCU fans are going to have to wait a bit longer to see some of their favorite superheroes on the big screen. This could end up being excellent news for last-minute story revisions and other things that may need to get changed, meaning we'll get a better movie when the dust settles. Hopefully the world's current situation will pass in the near future so that people can get back to some kind of normalcy. Variety was the first to announce the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 news.
We may finally know when Marvel's upcoming Blade reboot is going to arrive in theaters. This particular project was a surprise reveal last summer during Marvel Studios' massive Phase 4 presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. Few updates have been provided on the movie since it was announced, but it seems that the studio may have secured a rather appropriate release date for the daywalker's return to the silver screen.
Recently, Disney did quite a bit of shuffling around with its 2020/2021 release calendar. This provided new release dates for all of the announced Phase 4 movies, as well as some new dates for the already announced Phase 5 titles. Marvel updated its calendar through 2022 and they have a previously revealed date set aside on October 7, 2022, for a currently untitled movie. Charles Murphy, who has been surprisingly accurate with Marvel scoops in the past, took to Twitter to state that Blade will indeed be the title filling that particular slot. If this is indeed true, it would make sense for a few reasons.
For one, while we know other projects such as reboots of the X-Men and Fantastic Four are on the way, they are in the earlier stages and don't have any cast attached. Blade, meanwhile, has Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali on board to play the Marvel Comics character. The other important element here is that Blade will almost definitely resemble a horror movie, or at least more so than any other MCU entry has up to this point, what with vampires and whatnot being involved. Bearing that in mind, releasing the movie in October would make sense, as Marvel and Disney could capitalize on the Halloween season.
There are a couple of other titles, most notably Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Ant-Man 3 that could slot into that specific release date as well. Both of these movies are happening and seem to be at similar stages of the development process, give or take. Whatever appears in October 2022, it's important to note that we will now have four MCU movies releasing that year. Thor: Love and Thunder was pushed back to February 18, 2022, with Black Panther 2 previously announced for May 6, 2020. Disney also recently dated Captain Marvel 2 for July 8, 2022. That will make it a massive year for Marvel fans.
Blade previously appeared on the big screen in a trilogy of movies that starred Wesley Snipes as the character. Before the reboot was announced, Wesley Snipes revealed that he was working on two potential projects with Marvel, but it seems the studio decided to go in a different direction. Even so, Snipes has been supportive of the project publically. No director is attached to Blade at this time. We'll be sure to keep you posted as any further details on the project are made available. This story originated at @_CharlesMurphy on Twitter who has a track record for breaking stories. Fast & Furious 9, otherwise known as F9 in most Nos circles, has been delayed almost an entire year. So what are all of us Fast and Furious fans supposed to do in the meantime? Rewatching the entire franchise in an afternoon is certainly a viable option in this time of social distancing and self-isolation. We also have Bloodshot new to Digital premium rental. We also have a new video message from Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel and his son, who claim that the problems facing the world at this current time aren't just hurting us, their actually helping us. You can hear them out in the Instagram post below.
Vin Diesel and his son, who just got finished with Mandarin classes, hope to inspire and lift anyone who is currently depressed over this entire situation. Many celebrates have been jumping on the PSA bandwagon, as they are locked in their homes like the rest of us. Though some have complained that these A-List stars have it way better than most people, with their hot tubs, private tennis courts and luxurious swimming pools, while many are isolated in a drab one bedroom apartment unable to afford a can of corn or a Netflix subscription.
Vin Diesel means well in his message, but it will surely be taken many different ways. And that's okay, a lot of people are just angry right now that their entire way of life has been upended for the foreseeable future.
As for Fast and Furious 9, the movie was originally going to open worldwide here in a couple of weeks. Universal made an early decision to delay the F9 release date by almost exactly one year, with the action thriller now set to open April 2, 2021 if all goes well. Vin Diesel most recently starred in the Valiant Comic Book adaptation Bloodshot. It had the unfortunate luck to open in theaters just as all major chains shut everything down across the States. Because of this, Bloodshot was released to Premium Rental on Digital for purchase this past week. And it has been beating the early digital release for Birds of Prey, though that DC Comics adaptation had a longer stay in theaters.
Along with the video of his son, Vin Diesel has also shared a video of his 'little angel Pauline', who can be singing 'He's Got the Whole World in his Hands.' Which is part of director and actor Tyler Perry's #HesGotTheWholeWorldChallenge, whom Vin Diesel refers to as Uncle Tyler, though as far as I can see, the two have yet to collaborate on a movie. Maybe Madea can show up in Fast and Furious 10?
Vin Diesel currently has a lot of down time on his hands. So perhaps we'll see some more inspiring videos in the days to come. The action icon was supposed to set off on a F9 promotional tour, but that is being postponed until next year. It has been confirmed that Fast and Furious 10 is happening, and will bring this chapter of the saga to a close. It has also been confirmed that Hobbs and Shaw 2 is happening with The Rock. So the franchise will live on no matter what....
Hugely successful movie franchises are often prime material for brilliant fan theories, and Keanu Reeves' John Wick series is certainly one of them. Already the inspiration for a few inventive theories, such as each movie representing one of the stages of grief, another one has emerged that will definitely make you rethink what you've seen. The theory gaining steam online at the moment posits that the entire universe is actually set within a video game, and once you start digging into it, it makes a disturbing amount of sense.
The theory speculates that the whole world of John Wick is based on video games, and includes many of the same tropes and things you'd expect to see. The theorist suggests that 'John Wick moves through the movie killing NPCs before encountering an end-stage boss who is usually more difficult, as well as there being 'minimum dialogue during the action scenes'. They quite rightly point out that most of the 'dialogue takes place before and after the action scenes' which could very well suggest that these scenes are 'like cut scenes in a movie'.
The video game theory also goes on to explain how John Wick is so indestructible, managing to continue fighting on despite being at the sharp end of some pretty violent attacks and injuries.'John Wick is injured regularly as he goes about John Wicking, but when he is, the injury effects are short-lived. It is as if he is picking up health packs along the way. He shouldn't be walking, let alone fighting after getting stabbed, cut, sliced and shot.'
The theorist then adds some clarity to the mysterious currency that exists in the John Wick universe, explaining that 'coins are used in the movie in exchange for goods/services ok, the idea of currency did not originate in video games but gold coins remind me of Mario and Zelda'. Coins and other similar shiny talismans that can be collected are certainly a staple of video games. They also explain the peculiar obliviousness of the everyday public to the violent world around them, saying that 'the background characters mostly seem quite indifferent to the rampant violence, like typical nonchalant NPCs'.
The theory even includes a video game explanation of the mysterious hotel The Continental.'The Continental is the shop / game admin area where John Wick goes to recharge his health, get supplies and save the game. In this place, the game's action stops per the rules of the Continental but these rules are flouted as John's awareness of the game around him unravels.'
It really does make a lot of sense, and possibly makes the John Wick movies the greatest video game movies ever made. The theorist then elaborates on what they believe will happen with the rest of the franchise, suggesting that things could get very meta indeed.'Future John Wick films will progress the story plot of John Wick realising he is a person controlled character in a video game and him trying...
