Elijah Wood hopes to one day take a stab at A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. The former Lord of the Rings star recently made it known that he and his producing partner Daniel Noah, via their company SpectreVision, have it on their wishlist of projects they're actively pursuing. Whether or not it ever happens remains to be seen, but if Wood does get the chance, he wants to bring Robert England back as Freddy Krueger one last time.
Recently, Elijah Wood has been making the rounds to promote his new movie, Come to Daddy. During a recent interview, the subject of his proposed A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot came up. Nothing is set in stone, but Wood expressed that the way to go would be to have Robert Englund back and then expand the franchise beyond that in the future. Here's what he had to say about it.'You have to bring Robert Englund back for one more film. I think, especially if you're going to open up a new franchise and take it in different directions, you have to establish it with him and then you can move on. I don't think it's interesting to tell the same story over and over again, we don't need another origin story of Freddy Krueger, I don't think it should even really be so much about Freddy.'
Robert Englund first played Freddy Krueger in Wes Craven's original A Nightmare on Elm Street and starred as the horror icon in every movie up through 2003's Freddy vs Jason. Jackie Earle Haley took on the role in the 2010 reboot. Englund has been somewhat resistant to the idea of a return, citing his age as an obstacle, since any studio would likely want a long-term franchise. However, Robert Englund said he might have one more Freddy movie in him.
Based on what Elijah Wood is pitching, that would be enough. For what it's worth, Robert Englund did reprise the role in an episode of The Goldbergs last year. So he still has it in him, that much we know. Speaking further, Wood spoke a bit about New Nightmare, Wes Craven's 1994 meta sequel.'Scream owes a real debt to New Nightmare. That was the first time the notion of referencing horror movies in another horror movie was possible, it had never really been done before.'
Things have been quiet with this franchise for some time. Plans have been in place for another reboot for years now, but nothing has materialized. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick The Conjuring 2 has been attached to write it for some time. Recently, Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan revealed that he has a pitch for a new movie in the franchise. Whether or not he ends up pitching it to the right people is up in the air. Who knows? Maybe Flanagan and Elijah Wood can team up to make this happen. This news comes to us via ComingSoon.net.
Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising?
This week we look back at an arcade legend, eat the rich, get weird with Udo Kier, realize how wonderfully transgressive Nightmare on Elm Street 2 really was, and come-of-age in West Baltimore.Insert Coin
Director Joshua Tsui has a documentary that is now on my must-see list.
The oral history of a team of geeks and misfits in the back of a Chicago factory creating the biggest video games Mortal Kombat, NBA JAM, and others of all time.
Eugene Jarvis, the creator of 80s classic videogames such as Defender and Robotron, returns to the industry in the 90s. In the process, he assembles a team that pioneers the concept of bringing live-action into videogames, kickstarting a new era in the arcades.
The technology mushrooms into massive hits such as Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam and soon the team begins to conquer the world. What began as a small tight-knit group begins to deal with success and eventually the rise of home consumer technology.
This is not a slight on the material, but this is a breezy doc. It’s not like we’re talking about the ascendancy of Nintendo, or how Blizzard came to be a dominant force in gaming, we’re talking about NBA Jam. Which, for all intents and purposes, I’m down with exploring. It’s always entertaining to see how great minds turned a passion into a business that needs repeat customers to survive. In terms of video gaming, Midway was one of the greats.Scream, Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street
Directors Roman Chimienti and Tyler Jensen are exploring one of the lesser spoken about sequels.
When A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY’S REVENGE was released in 1985, it wasn’t long before people noticed something was just a little different. The sequel’s premise of a teenage boy named Jesse Mark Patton becoming possessed by Freddy was a departure from the slasher tropes embraced by the original.
However, it was the film’s homoerotic shower scene, foray into a gay leather bar, and Patton’s positioning as a screen queen that raised more than a few eyebrows, and became the main point of discussion when talking about the film for years to come. Amid backlash and finger-pointing about his sexuality’s impact on the film, and the fear of homosexuals and AIDS permeating the culture in the mid-’80s, Mark Patton left Hollywood. Now, more than three decades later, he wants to set the record straight.

The film industry has faced ongoing disruption over the past week, particularly when it comes to movies that were supposed to be hitting theaters in the near future. With many studios deciding to release their high-profile movies to digital platforms early, one such example is that of the action-comedy Bad Boys for Life, which will be available from March 31st. It has now also been revealed that the digital release, as well as the eventual release of the Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD will contain over 50 minutes of special features, as well as an alternate ending.
Of course, given the need to keep spoilers to an absolute minimum, no details about the Bad Boys for Life alternate ending have been provided. Considering how explosive the movie's theatrical ending was, it will be interesting to see how things differ in this version. Perhaps some characters who did not make it out of the theatrical cut alive will this time or vice versa? Or perhaps it is simply that the action unfolds slightly differently when compared to what we all saw on the big screen.
With regards to the rest of the special features that Bad Boys 3 will be providing on the Digital, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD releases, these include extended and alternate scenes and an easter egg tour guided by directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, as well as the following featurettes: Ride or Die: Making Bad Boys for Life, Partners in Crime: Behind-the-Scenes, and It's About Time, the latter of which delves into 25 years of Bad Boys history producer Jerry Bruckheimer and the cast and crew.
Hitting screens 17 years after 2003's Bad Boys II, this year's Bad Boys for Life saw the return of the bickering Miami detectives, with Will Smith's Mike Lowery and Martin Lawrence's Marcus Burnett investigating a string of murders tied to Mike Lowrey's troubled past. As well as the duo of Smith and Lawrence, Bad Boys for Life also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Paola Núñez, Kate del Castillo, Nicky Jam, and a returning Joe Pantoliano as Captain Conrad Howard. The movie is directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah and was written by Chris Bremner, Peter Craig, and Joe Carnahan.
Bad Boys for Life did exceptionally well both critically and commercially, with the movie currently sitting at a 77 percent score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with a score of 96 percent from audiences, making it the highest-ranked movie in the Bad Boys franchise so far. Commercially, Bad Boys for Life pulled in nearly $420 million worldwide off a $90 million budget, and thus is currently the highest-grossing movie of 2020.
With the stage set for a follow-up, it's hard to deny that they wasted the title Bad Boys 4 Life, there are many fans eager to watch the third installment once again and explore the various special features, easter eggs, and alternate ending.
