It’s still hard to believe this is really happening, but Bill and Ted 3, aka Bill and Ted Face the Music, is a real movie that we’ll actually get to see this year. After years of rumors and false starts, a third Bill and Ted movie is ready to bring back Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as the Wyld Stallyns in their adulthood. A new, official Bill and Ted 3 image gives us a look at Reeves and Winter in character, awaiting us with open arms.
I have to get this out of the way first: I cannot get used to clean-shaven Keanu Reeves. I know the actor has appeared clean-shaven in films before – including the first two Bill and Ted films. But Reeves’ facial hair has become such a big part of his overall look that to see him now beard-free is just…odd. At least in still image form. Perhaps it’ll look perfectly normal in action, but in this pic – which first debuted at Empire – it’s slightly off-putting.
In Bill and Ted Face the Music, “Now enduring the monotony of middle-aged life, William ‘Bill’ S. Preston, Esq. and Theodore ‘Ted’ Logan are warned by a visitor from the future of the need for them to create a song that will save all life on Earth and the entire universe. The pair work with their families, old friends, famous musicians, and each other to complete the task.”
In addition to Winter and Reeves reprising their roles, Face the Music also features Brigette Lundy-Paine as Billie Logan, Ted’s daughter; and Samara Weaving as Thea Preston, Bill’s daughter. William Sadler is back as the Grim Reaper, and Barry break-out Anthony Carrigan plays the film’s villain. Other cast members include Jillian Bell, Kid Cudi, Beck Bennett, Holland Taylor, and Kristen Schaal. Galaxy Quest filmmaker Dean Parisot directs a script from Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon.
“They were told when they were teenagers that they were going to save reality, and they’ve been working on it the whole time,” Matheson told EW. “Now an emissary from the future comes and says, ‘You’ve got to do it right now. We’ve got literally 80 minutes or all of reality will come to an end.'”
Bill and Ted Face the Music opens August 22, 2020.
It seems inevitable that we'll one day see Keanu Reeves in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for some fans, it would be amazing to see him portraying the MCU's version of Johnny Blaze's Ghost Rider Though some of Reeves' characters are certainly no less tough than Marvel's superheroes, the John Wick star has yet to appear in one of the major superhero movie franchises, but it hasn't been for a lack of trying. Last year, Marvel head Kevin Feige said there had been conversations with Reeves about bringing him into the universe one day, but Feige says they want to figure out 'the right way to do it.'
As the Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider has yet to appear in the MCU, there are many fans feeling taking on the role would be the perfect way to bring Reeves into the fold. Chatter over the possibility has since gotten the attention of digital artists like ultraraw26 on Instagram, who has gone ahead and created some interesting artwork imagining Reeves in the role. '[I don't care] what role he plays in the MCU, because whichever role that is, he will give one hell of a performance,' the artist notes in the caption. You can check out the artwork of Reeves as Ghost Rider for yourself below.
Those of us who've seen Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series may have already realized there's a hurdle in bringing in Reeves as Ghost Rider for a new movie set in the MCU. On the small screen series, Gabriel Luna appeared as Robbie Reyes version of the anti-hero with plans from the studio to develop a solo series for the character on Hulu. As Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is also set in the MCU, this means Reeves would have to play an alternate version of Ghost Rider, and although he'd be a different version, it still may confuse some fans to have two Ghost Riders in the MCU.. In any case, Hulu passed on the Ghost Rider series, leaving the future of the character in total limbo.
If Keanu Reeves doesn't have Ghost Rider on the table, then who else could he play in the MCU? Many characters have been suggested for him by Marvel fans, including Silver Surfer, Mr. Sinister, Moon Knight, Namor, and even Wolverine. Though we'll have to wait to see if and when Reeves will finally join the MCU and who he will play, there's still plenty else to look forward to for fans of the actor. He can soon be seen in the anticipated sequel Bill & Ted Face the Music and will reprise two other beloved roles in the upcoming sequels The Matrix 4 and John Wick 4.
Most of us remember when Nicolas Cage played Johnny Blaze in the 2007 Ghost Rider movie adaptation, a role which he reprised in the 2011 sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Those movies were fun enough, but it seems like it's about time to bring Johnny Blaze back to theaters with an all-new Ghost Rider movie, whether it's Luna or Reeves in the titular role. If not the latter, we'll hopefully see him appear in the MCU soon enough. The digital artwork shown above comes to us from...
Alex Winter has found a treasure trove of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure behind-the-scenes set images. The Bill S. Preston actor went ahead and shared them all on social media, which is most excellent for the fans. Winter got together with Keanu Reeves, along with original Bill & Ted writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson, last summer to work on the long-awaited sequel Bill & Ted Face the Music. But now is a time to look back. Winter had this to say about finding the long-lost images.'I found an old hard drive with a bunch of BTS shots from Bill & Ted 1. These are from the opening dance number yes an actual, choreographed rock jam and face off with the jocks at the bus stop that didn't make it into the movie.'
Alex Winter was not kidding about the deleted opening air guitar rock jam, as they are seen in his newly posted images. Bill and Ted were going to treat their high school peers with an epic and choreographed air guitar duel, which for unknown reasons, never made it into the movie. We now also have photographic evidence that they were going to meet up with the jocks in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, who treated our heroes like a joke.
'Here's attempting to figure out air guitar with Missy and Dad, and a bemused Reeves,' says Alex Winter when introducing another set of images from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. The photo is as he describes and it's pretty awesome. From there, the actor posted some more images for the fans, including a truly epic shot of himself, Keanu Reeves, and the late great George Carlin, aka Rufus. While Rufus won't be able to be in Bill & Ted Face the Music, we do know that Carlin's daughter, Kelly Carlin, has a role in the movie. According to Ed Solomon, she plays a 'very significant role in the journey.'The Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure behind-the-scenes images are a nice treat for fans. They were also probably a nice treat for Alex Winter to stumble on to too. It's also a great way to get people excited for Bill & Ted Face the Music, which finds our heroes down a road they never thought they'd be down. They're now middle-aged family men with daughters. They are far from the epic rock stars they always thought they would become and are now tasked with writing a song to save the universe in just 78 minutes.
Bill & Ted Face the Music hits theaters on August 20th, 2020. Fans have waited nearly three decades to see Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves back on screen together, so this is a momentous occasion that deserves some time to look back and reflect. Hopefully Winter has some Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey photos to share in anticipation of the long-awaited sequel. For now, we can all enjoy the latest gems he rediscovered. You can check them all out below, thanks to Alex Winter's Twitter.
